Bored Pilot posts in KRNO, KTKI, KSAV, KBOI,
Flying a slick plane is great but while when you get on the ground in KRNO- "Reno/tahoe International" Reno, NV... KTKI- "Collin County Regl" Mckinney, TX... KSAV- "Savannah/hilton Head Intl" Savannah, GA... KBOI- "Gowen Field Int'l" Boise, ID... Before you head out of the FBO door in Reno, NV (KRNO), the pilots union voted and you should know about other things to offer " " Walk to the Half Moon Bay Brewery for reasonable greasy spoon fare and great scenery of the harbor. It's on the far South Side of the field...a ways away from the FBO " Before you make your plans in Mckinney, TX (KTKI), one pilot has mentioned that if you were interested in staying overnight " THE place to stay at McKinney is The Grand Hotel and Ricks Chophouse. It's a historic hotel with beautiful renovated rooms in downtown McKinney. Rick's food is AMAZING too! Fly to Cutter Aviation and talk to Laura or Brian, they'll give you the scoop! http://www.grandhotelmckinney.com/ " Think it over before you head out in Savannah, GA (KSAV), you may want to know for your other things to offer " " Got a massage at the Oglethorpe Mall... $12/12 min the mall was 15-20 min away though... " Before you even land you can already be thinking about Boise, ID (KBOI), you may want to know for your assuming you must stay overnight " Redlion Downtowner is a nice hotel that's within walking distance of everything downtown. Stayed there during my airline career, it was our crew hotel. " Thanks again for supporting the BoredPilot Community and we welcome your posts at www.BoredPilot.com . Bored Pilot posts in KFLL, KTCC, KSYR,
New pilot gadgets are great but sometimes you have to get out see the area you are visiting, like in KFLL- "Hollywood Int'l" Ft Lauderdale, FL... KTCC- "Tucumcari Muni" Tucumcari, NM... KSYR- "Syracuse Hancock Intl" Syracuse, NY... Is the crew lounge full of NetJet pilots and Flight Option pilots? Check out whats in Ft Lauderdale, FL (KFLL), you may want to know for your before, "bring a good aviation magazine, there are no current acitivies..." since it may not have been much before. But now you can know what another has said " " National Jets does it right, go there! " While making your plans in Tucumcari, NM (KTCC), 5 out of 3 pilots here agreed about before, "bring a good aviation magazine, there are no current acitivies..." since it may not have been much before. But now you can know what another has said " " My wife & I just returned a few weeks ago from a trip across the country in our homebuilt. We stopped in TCC for fuel and an overnighter, the day before Hurricane Norbert came through. The plan was to get out of there before Norb came through, but Norb moved pretty fast. Who'da thunk that one would be grounded by a hurricane in eastern NM in Oct? When Norb left, he left the door open for a cold front that had been energized by all the moisture from Norb. The airplane and I are instrument rated & current, but I don't do thunderstorms or real low stuff. They should have paid us to stay there - we brought them over 2.5 inches of rain in the four days we were stuck. If you've ever seen the animated movie "Cars," you've seen a representation of TCC and other small towns along the old Rt. 66 highway. The makers of the movie traveled Rt. 66 and took notes. TCC and I believe Seligman, AZ served as their models, primarily. There is a geologic formation outside of TCC that served as a model for some of the scenery in the movie. There are few things to do in TCC. There are a couple of older motels along old Rt. 66 in town, that will provide transportation from the airport. We stayed at one of these (the Safari Motel), and it was quite comfortable with modern amenities in the rooms. The owner is a good guy who will provide transportation in town to the extent he's able, with his other duties. Another '50s era motel right across the street (the Blue Swallow) also shows up in the extras tacked on to the end of the CD for the "Cars" movie. There are two museums in TCC. The Dinosaur Museum, operated by the local two year college, is excellent if you're at all interested in that sort of thing. The city historical museum is closer to being a collection of antique flea market stuff, than a museum. They do have a NM ANG F-100 parked in their yard, which is interesting for us aviation people. They indicated that they're interested in getting rid of it; it's in pretty sad shape. If you have several hundred grand and several thousand hours to restore it, give them a call. We did dine at the best restaurant in town, the Pow Wow In and Lizard Lounge (I am not making this up!). If you like Tex-Mex, this is a good one. We did stay in a more modern chain motel at the east end of town for our last night, only because the Safari Motel was previously booked by a film crew for that night. The restaurant nearby was unmemorable, one way or the other. In retrospect, we're happy to have stayed in one of the older places toward the center of town. The airport has a courtesy car, but its use is limited to the briefest of visits into town, then back to the airport. No half-day or overnighters with the car. So, we were on foot for most of our stay there. There are a number of quite well done murals on various building walls throughout the old part of town, and these are worth the walk for the most part. Otherwise, do as we do when we travel by personal airplane, and bring plenty to read and a puzzle book or two. You'll need them, eventually. " Don't just let the FBO desk send you anywhere in Syracuse, NY (KSYR), one pilot has mentioned that if you were interested in tossing the food to the FBO line guys and eat " The Colorado Steak House is about 10 mins from the Airport off I90 (Buckly Road)The Food was great and they have 3 course meal for 20 bucks. I had the 12 OZ Steak which was about 15 bucks. I had Loaded Cheese Frys and a salad as well. I was out the door for 26 bucks. " Happy Flying and good luck not being a Bored Pilot. Bored Pilot posts in KCMI, KISP, MYNN, KAGS,
I'll just jump right in the week for all the busy Bored Pilots, in KCMI- "Univ Of Illinois, Willard" Champaign, IL... KISP- "Long Island Mac Arthur" Islip, NY... MYNN- "Lynden Pindling Intl" Nassau, ... KAGS- "Bush Field" Augusta, GA... Before you make your plans in Champaign, IL (KCMI), A Bored Pilot has posted that if it crossed your mind about other things to offer " " Great Facilities! Cheap fuel, better than ORD and MDW! If you have time (at least an hour) go to Papa Dells to get a pizza, it's a great deep dish! " Before you head out of the FBO door in Islip, NY (KISP), 5 out of 3 pilots here agreed about stopping worrying about jet fuel prices and get some grub at " Many diners and resturants across the street from airport on Vet's Hwy. Also an Applebees & McDonalds. " While talking over what to do with your crew members in Nassau, (MYNN), one pilot has mentioned that if you were interested in staying overnight " The Sheraton at Cable Beach has a crew rate at 180 bucks/night. Lot of swimming pools, casino, bars, and restaurants. " Is the crew lounge full of NetJet pilots and Flight Option pilots? Check out whats in Augusta, GA (KAGS), you may want to know for your other things to offer " " Golf!! If your there for a couple of days. Here are some ideas, Guest villas at the River Course, great deal and nice golf. Another choice is the Houndslake country club in Aiken. They have a guesthouse, actually a small hotel right on the 27 hole course. " Happy Flying and good luck not being a Bored Pilot. Bored Pilot posts in KMDW,
Corporate pilots are a mixed bag... "mixed bag of what" some FBO owners or FBO line guys may say:) Lets prove them wrong - after making friends head out in the crew car in KMDW- "Chicago Midway Intl" Chicago, IL... Before you decide what to do in Chicago, IL (KMDW), ATC won't tell you about it but another pilot mentioned something about tossing the food to the FBO line guys and eat " Anthonys! a half of a mile from MDW and less than that from the MDW Airport Hotels complex. BY FAR the best food in the area. Run by a Greek family. But that have anything from authentic Greek food to the BEST HALF BBQ Chicken and Fries for less than 6 bucks. BEER is sold there. Great American food too. From Hot Dogs to Burgers! Plan on spending $5.00 to $10.00 dollars per person. ADS | APA | BFI | DAB | DAL | DVT | FFZ | FXE | LGB | MMU | MYF | PDK | RVS | SDL | SFB | SNA | TEB | VNY | ALL | Blog I am a corporate pilot and after years of flying for the airlines and for the corporate world I decided to create this free site to help us all out. I was tired of wasting away while sitting in the crew rooms watching CNN. I often heard of great activities in certain cities just 10 minutes from the airport but unfortunately I always heard of them the day after I was there. Now we can share our finds and help out the next pilot and also refresh our minds of what we have found in our travels.
