If you ever find yourself finished with the flight plans, sick of Rudy's Catering (although it is good), with no new aviation apps on your iphone you can head out and explore KJVY- "Clark County" Jeffersonville, IN... K57- "Gould Peterson Muni" Tarkio, MO... KGKY- "Arlington Muni" Arlington, TX... Don't just let the FBO desk send you anywhere in Jeffersonville, IN (KJVY), there was a post that may help if you were interested in somthing else, it isn't completely void " " Visit the falls of the ohio. There's an interpretive center and, when the Ohio river is low, stretches of fossil beds with easily seen fossils. Take water on a hot day. You could spend a few minutes or hike for several hours on the fossil beds. About 5 miles south on I65 on the IN bank of the Ohio at Jeffersonville. Near several really good restaurants, too. " Before you decide what to do in Tarkio, MO (K57), one pilot has mentioned that if you were interested in trying to forget that last landing with the 30 kt gust and get some food " some guy named randy saw me at the airport and took me into town. there are 2 bar/restaurants in town. we drove past the first one, and good thing... it looked nasty. the 2nd was was your typical friendly small town rural bar. we got some food and they had karaoke. not a big town, but very friendly. " While making your plans in Arlington, TX (KGKY), you may want to consider what one Pilot had to say about the facilities for your wait " Harrison has a monopoly here. The city is building a new terminal though, so hopefully that'll help things. Self Serve is on the FAR south end of the field. Much cheap! er! Another great week for Bored Pilots, apparently in KLFT- "Lafayette Regional" Lafayette, LA... KATL- "Hartsfield-jackson" Atlanta, GA... KNEW- "Lakefront" New Orleans, LA... KCHA- "Lovell Field" Chattanooga, TN... KAGC- "Allegheny County" Pittsburgh, PA... Before you head out of the FBO door in Lafayette, LA (KLFT), A Bored Pilot has posted that if it crossed your mind about before, "bring a good aviation magazine, there are no current acitivies..." since it may not have been much before. But now you can know what another has said " " they NEED a Snooze room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 " Don't just let the FBO desk send you anywhere in Atlanta, GA (KATL), A crew member mentioned that if you were into grabbing the latest copy of Aviation Week and get some food " The Grecian Gyro. only about 3 min away from fbo. its a dive, but probably the best greek gyros you can get anywhere. an old greek guy runs the place with his greek sailors hat on and an shirt that says 'once a week, go greek'. you'll love it. " Before you even land you can already be thinking about New Orleans, LA (KNEW), you may want to know for your somthing else, it isn't completely void " " Always something to do on Bourbon St. Come on, it's New Orleans! " Don't just let the FBO desk send you anywhere in Chattanooga, TN (KCHA), there was a post that may help if you were interested in filling your craving for some food " Bar-B-Q: good local bar b q at "Pork & Loin", it is very close to the airport " After getting the local guide from the FBO! line se rvice see what else there is in Pittsburgh, PA (KAGC), the pilots union voted and you should know about filling your craving for some food " Primanti's, a pittsburgh institution for sandwiches, pizza, and local goodies. A chain of 20 restaurant's, about 5 miles from AGC. Worth the drive. Expect good food AND good service. The ideas just keep coming in! The good news is that can find something to do in KMEI- "Key Field" Meridian, MS... KJKA- "Jack Edwards" Gulf Shores, AL... After getting the local guide from the FBO line service see what else there is in Meridian, MS (KMEI), you may want to know for your trying to forget that last landing with the 30 kt gust and get some food " Food--Deli on Fifth downtown, great sandwiches and soups, to die for deserts. " Think it over before you head out in Gulf Shores, AL (KJKA), it has been said letting the captain of the plane buy the crew some food at " Lu Lu's is pretty good food and a great atmosphere. If you drive north towards foley you'll find Lambert's the Home of the Throwed Role. Bring your appetite to Lamberts because you won't be leaving to run a martathon afterwards, they feed you. " Don't just let the FBO desk send you anywhere in Atlanta, GA (KATL), you may want to consider what one Pilot had to say about saving the the aircraft catering for later and eat " Spondivits, 1219 Virginia Ave, East Point - YUCK! Food is VERY overpriced, Waitresses act like they are too good to be waitresses and don't need the money... but yet they are ghetto. Flying a slick plane is great but while when you get on the ground in KOWB- "Owensboro-daviess County" Owensboro, KY... KSNA- "John Wayne" Santa Ana, CA... While talking over what to do with your crew members in Owensboro, KY (KOWB), there was a post that may help if you were interested in getting some grub " Moonlight barbecue, internationally famous. Just ask the friendly folks at the MidAmericaJet FBO for the crew car or call moonlight and they will come pick you up and drop you off. " Before you decide what to do in Santa Ana, CA (KSNA), it has been said getting a bite to eat " At at Gulliver's Restaurant right by the airport. Pretty pricy dinner but VERY good prime rib in such large portions I could eat just about 3/4 of it. Really good! Check out whats in Chicago, IL (KMDW), you may want to know for your treating yourself for another safe flight and get some food " Sushi Thaime (www.sushi thaime.com)is not far from the MDW hotel "compound". West 95th in Oaklawn. about 10 min from airport via car. Good sushi if you have an overnight. I have a personal policy to not eat sushi if I don't have a long overnight for obvious reasons. They are all good sites but www.BoredPilot.com invites you to step outside the FBO in KHEF- "Manassas Regional" Manassas, VA... KCAE- "Columbia Metropolitan" Columbia, SC... Before you decide what to do in Manassas, VA (KHEF), you may want to know for your somthing else, it isn't completely void " " USMC IFS and nothing else... " Before you decide what to do in Columbia, SC (KCAE), the pilots union voted and you should know about getting a bite to eat " I have to mention Lizards Thicket. Good country cookin with sweet tea. "Meat and 3" type of place. The crew cars probably know the 5 min ride by heart - if no crew cars then the line guys will give you a ride and come back and get you. I was tired of wasting away while sitting in the crew rooms watching CNN. I often heard of great activities in certain cities just 10 minutes from the airport but unfortunately I always heard of them the day after I was there. Now we can share our finds and help out the next pilot and also refresh our minds of what we have found in our travels.
